People of Box Hill Central - Louis Kuo

07 Apr 2016

One of our most popular restaurants is Kitchen Republik, we spoke with Co-Founder Louis Kuo. In 2005 Louis Kuo migrated from Taiwan to Australia with his mother.

For Louis, growing up in Taiwan meant being surrounded by rich, authentic and home cooked Chinese food and delicacies, sparking his love for creating traditional Taiwanese food. Learning the art of dumpling making from the ripe old age of 10 years old, Louis learnt traditional techniques of cooking from his mother.

In 2012, Louis launched Box Hill Central’s favourite Taiwanese restaurant, Kitchen Republik. With a mixture of authentic Taiwanese eateries, the hawker hall style restaurant is a bustling food hub that houses traditional Chinese décor with a hint of 70’s – 80’s.

The best parts of working at Box Hill Central? After 10 years in the hospitality industry, Kuo says the best parts of working at Box Hill Central is meeting different people, seeing the community and relationships grow. Kuo has witnessed first dates turn into marriages turn into families who love coming back to Kitchen Republik for more. Kuo prides himself on consistent regular diners and his friendly staff whom he loves to work with, a combination that creates at atmosphere like no other.

Local’s flock to the restaurant to indulge in juicy Beef Wraps, Pan Fried Pork Dumplings and Taiwanese Style Popcorn Chicken, but the menu boasts a huge array of authentic dishes.

Louis’ favourite Kitchen Republik dishes:

  • Dumplings as these are the first thing he learnt to make! Beef Wrap and the Beef Noodle Soup!
